God's Big Picture

Romans 11:19-36

God’s Big Picture

Sometimes it’s good to see the big picture in things but no matter how much of God’s plan we can find out we will never know the whole big picture. God’s big picture and hope for us and for the nation of Israel is that all would be saved. Like a good gardener there must be pruning and a cutting away of those who are not abiding in Him. We have been fortunate to have been the disobedient branches that have been graciously grafted into by the work of Jesus. Paul says that the branches that have been cut off because of unbelief can be grafted in again if God chooses. This is an encouragement to me to know that God is willing to take cut off branches that once rejected Him and graft them back in if they want to abide in Him again. This reminds me of Peter and Jesus’ conversation about how often we should forgive a brother. The just of the principle is that we should always forgive like God. God is grafting and cutting all the time. This is hard because we like absolutes and black or white. God is absolute in His forgiving work and black and white in His saving attributes. However God is definitive in His word that there is a judgment and there is an end to this world. We all gamble with God’s goodness while on this earth and for the most part He is gracious to us but we need to know that the game will come to an end.

“(15) Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (16) For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (17) And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:15-17)

God’s promises are irrevocable. God has given gifts and callings to not just the Jewish nation but also to you and me. God has called all people to receive His gift of mercy which was extended to us from the cross at Calvary.

No one can know the true depth of who God is and what He has planned. The things that we are privy to, suggest that God is big enough and loving enough to do it all.

“(20) Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, (21) to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
